Michigan Trailhead is a trail map and navigation app operated by Michigan Trails LLC (“we,” “us”). This policy explains what information the Michigan Trailhead app and website collect, how it is used, and the choices you have.

Information we collect

Location data: The app uses your device’s location to show your position on the map and, if you choose, to record your rides. You can turn off location access at any time in your device settings, though some features will not work without it.

Ride recordings: Rides you record, including GPS tracks, distance and time, are stored on your device. Downloaded offline maps are also stored on your device.

Messages you send us: If you email us or use our contact form, we receive your name (if you provide it), your email address and anything you include in your message.

Launch email list: If you sign up to be notified at launch, we receive your email address and use it to send you news about the app’s launch. To be removed from the list, email travis@michigantrailhead.com.

Live beacon: If you choose to send a beacon, the people you send it to can see your location and ride while it is active.

Website: Our website is hosted by Squarespace, which may collect basic technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you visit.

How we use information

We use this information only to provide and improve the app’s maps, navigation and ride recording features, to respond to your messages, and to send launch news to people who sign up. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.

Sharing

We do not share your personal information with third parties, except with service providers that help us operate the app and website (such as our map and hosting providers), or when required by law.

Your choices and data deletion

You can delete recorded rides and offline maps in the app at any time, and deleting the app removes the data stored on your device. To ask us to delete any information we hold about you, email travis@michigantrailhead.com.

Children’s privacy

The app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app develops. When we do, we will post the new version on this page and update the date above.
